Project Mariwo natural has the plan to join Mariwo community in solving their basic problems and build up a sustainable mobilization of natural resources, creating awareness about the interdependence of water, carbon and nutrient cycles and also making agriculture a more profitable business for the rural farmers.
This project also has plans to inspire the youths in the community and neighbouring institutions to participate in the production and marketing of natural healthy foods grown in this community.
Therefore there was a need for capacity building on Agroforestry for 5 of our staff in Rwanda. This training was facilitated by two world known Agroforestry experts – World Agroforestry centre and Vi Agroforestry centre, from August 29th to Sept 19th.
World Agroforestry was mostly field tour that exposed the team to Agroforestry on the field, selected Agroforestry tress, planting patterns, adaptation of farmers in different rural communities to Agroforestry and a number of real life success stories in Agroforestry. The Vi Agroforestry training had a seminar in French language with the aid of an interpreter and also hands on the field. Two members also attended the African Green Revolution Forum (AGRF).
The whole training experience widened the team’s horizon on Agroforestry and gave insight into the various practices involved in the system. The lessons we learnt from the training includes ; Climate Change and Sustainable Land Management, Agroforestry Systems, Tree nursery management. We also had field visits and made visits to the Agahozo Shalom Youth Village (ASYV). During the course of the training the Student Leaders Training and Tournament SLEDT Africa kick started in Rwanda which was sponsored by the American Embassy in Rwanda.
With the training we received, we have been equipped to execute Project Mariwo Natural. We shall continue to keep you up to date with our progress.
